Midicake UNA - user manual¶
Capture a chord. Build a band. Play!
A hands-on hardware composer for keyboards, synths, and the people who play them live.
Manual v1.0 - 2026. Applies to firmware v1.0 and later.
From the Midicake team¶
Thank you for buying UNA.
UNA is a hardware instrument for players who want more music from fewer hands - a way to sketch, shape, and perform a full three-part composition in real time, on the surface of a single unit, without a computer or a mouse in sight. Every knob, every button, every parameter was designed to feel immediate - to reward experimentation, to invite happy accidents, and to keep you playing.
We build our instruments to last. That's true of the hardware, and it's true of the firmware - free updates keep expanding what UNA can do, and there is a rolling roadmap of new features driven by what our players tell us they want. If you have ideas, questions, or something's not working, please get in touch. You'll hear back directly from the people who made it.
Now - plug in, dial in a chord, and start listening.

How to use this manual¶
This manual will get you from out-of-the-box to performing in about ten minutes, or give you a fully comprehensive guide to all of UNA's deeper features when you are ready for more; the chapters are written to work either way.
The manual is structured for two reading paths: a Quick Start path (Chapters 1, 2, then jump as needed), and a reference path (any chapter, any time). Chapter 5 sits between them - read it once, near the start, and the rest of the manual makes immediate sense.
